Arcadia is a city of gardens. The Los Angeles County Arboretum sits right in town, and many residential lots have mature oaks, camellias, citrus and roses that owners have tended for decades. A glass sunroom lets you sit among all of that year-round, and for serious gardeners it can double as a place to overwinter tender plants.
Sunroom or Conservatory?
The terms get used loosely, but the styles are distinct.
A sunroom in our lineup usually means a curved eave, straight eave, or cathedral/studio room. These are clean, modern shapes that attach to the house and emphasize glass area.
A conservatory is a more ornamental glass room. Our conservatory sunrooms come in Victorian designs, with a faceted rounded end, and Georgian designs, with a squared-off, symmetrical form. In Arcadia, conservatories are a common choice for traditional two-story homes and estate-style properties where a plain box would look out of place.
Comparing the Sunroom Styles
- Curved eave: Glass arcs from wall into roof. Maximum sky and treetop views. Soft profile.
- Straight eave: Angled roof meets wall at a crisp line. Tidy and versatile; fits ranch homes well.
- Cathedral: Peaked roof for a tall, open interior. Works with gabled houses.
- Studio: Single-slope roof, taller at the house wall. Good on two-story homes.
- Victorian conservatory: Decorative, multi-faceted end. A garden showpiece.
- Georgian conservatory: Formal, rectangular, symmetrical. Pairs with classic architecture.
Glass Choices for the Valley Climate
Arcadia can be one of the warmer spots in the San Gabriel Valley in summer, and nights cool down in winter. That swing is why glass selection comes up at every estimate.
Dual pane glass is our usual recommendation for rooms used most of the year. The insulating layer reduces heat gain on summer afternoons and keeps warmth in on winter evenings, which also helps plants.
Single pane glass costs less and suits rooms used mainly in the milder months or in shaded spots under big trees.
Both block harmful UV, protecting furniture and flooring. Add retractable shades or curtains to control light, ceiling fans for airflow, and heating and A/C, either tied to your home system or standalone. Our windows and doors page shows the options.
Placing a Sunroom on an Arcadia Lot
With larger lots, the question is usually where the room will be most pleasant. A few things to consider:
- A spot under partial tree shade stays cooler, but check for leaf litter on the roof.
- A room facing the garden or pool gets used more than one facing a side yard.
- Existing concrete slabs are the simplest base. A sturdy deck can work but is inspected first.
Every room is custom made to order and matched to your home’s architecture. Permits may be required through the city’s building department, and your HOA may need to review plans if you have one. We handle those details at the estimate.
Warranty and Installation
For a garden room, think about flooring and water early. Tile or sealed concrete handles potted plants and the occasional spill better than carpet, and an outlet or two placed low can run a small fountain or grow lights. These details are easy to plan before the room is ordered and harder to change afterward.Cthru and Four Seasons products are made in California and carry a lifetime transferable manufacturer warranty. After materials arrive from the factory, installation takes about 3 to 5 days. The in-home estimate is free, with no obligation.
