Shelter Overhead Without Losing the Light
A glass roof patio cover solves a common problem: a solid cover keeps the weather off, but it can leave the patio and the rooms behind it dark. A glass roof shelters the space from rain while daylight keeps coming through. The glass blocks harmful UV rays, so you get the brightness without the full exposure.
Glass covers make the most sense on patios that already get some shade, such as those facing north or east or sitting under mature trees, where the goal is protection from the elements rather than more shade. They also work as covered walkways and entry canopies, where a solid roof would feel heavy.
Features
- Glass roof that lets daylight through while keeping rain off.
- UV-blocking glass, the same kind of glass used in our glass sunrooms.
- Keeps nearby rooms bright, since light still reaches windows and doors under the cover.
- Custom made to order and designed to match your home.
- Made in California with a lifetime transferable manufacturer warranty.
Options to Consider
Glass roof covers can be fitted with structure colors to match your home and with lighting and fans for evening use; see electrical options. Ask about framing that pairs the glass with an aluminum wood finish if you want a warmer, wood grain look around the glass.
We also talk through orientation at the estimate. Where the cover faces and what shades it will shape how the space feels on a summer afternoon, and we will help you decide whether glass is the right roof for that spot.
Comparing Glass, Solid and Lattice Covers
- Glass roof: rain protection plus daylight. Best where light matters and direct sun is already limited.
- Solid insulated: full shade and rain protection, with 3″, 4″ or 6″ insulated roof panels. Best where sun and heat are the main problems.
- Lattice: filtered sun and shade, open to the rain. Best for airy entertaining spaces, walkways and garden areas.
If you want glass overhead and glass on the sides, you are really describing a sunroom. A straight eave sunroom or curved eave sunroom gives you a fully enclosed glass room. A glass cover can also be enclosed later with glass or insulated wall systems.
Using a Glass Cover in Southern California
Local conditions matter a lot for a glass roof:
- Coastal homes are often a natural fit. Mild temperatures and gray mornings mean homeowners usually want to keep all the light they can, and a glass roof keeps the patio dry during winter rain.
- Inland valley homes can use glass covers well on shaded, north or east facing patios, walkways and entries. For a patio in full afternoon sun, a solid cover over the seating area may be more comfortable.
- Desert homes face the strongest sun in the region. A glass roof is usually best kept to shaded areas and entry canopies there, with solid insulated covers over main outdoor living space.
We will give you an honest recommendation for your yard during the estimate, including whether a different cover or a mix of styles would work better.
Installation and Warranty
It starts with a free, no-obligation in-home estimate, where we measure the area, look at how the sun moves across it and give you a written price. Each glass cover is custom made to order. Once materials are ready, most patio covers install in 1 to 2 days. Permits may be required, and your city’s building department or HOA may need to approve the cover; we go over this during your estimate.
Glass roof covers carry a lifetime transferable manufacturer warranty. Schedule a free in-home estimate. We are open 7 days a week, and financing is available.
